F.Y.I.
In the wake of the National Black Fine Art Show, I want
to call attention to Vol.17 #3 of the International Review of
African-American Art (IRAAA), the quarterly publication of Hampton Univ.
Museum. A special issue called “Passing the Passion”, it features articles
about athletes and musicians who have become collectors. In this period of
expanding interest in collection, the article “Appraising the Appraisers”
is especially noteworthy, delving into the next important step after
starting a collection. It also offers names of certified appraisers here
in N.Y. No surprise to find Halima Taha. Michael Chisolm (also recommended
by a couple of longtime gallery directors). Savacou named Mark Dabney,
(who participated in the panel on “the current state of African American
Art”, held at the Museum for African Art. Also in that issue, is a
national directory of galleries specializing in Black art. Send check or
M.O. for $6.50 includes shipping: IRAAA, Hampton University Museum,
