NCA 2004 CONFERENCE IN ATLANTA
DURING NATIONAL BLACK ARTS FESTIVAL
Willis Bing Davis and The Board of Directors of NCA has called for a
two-day NCA conference July 15 and 16, starting one day prior to the
National Black Arts Festival, July 16 -25 in Atlanta, GA. NCA’s conference
will take place at Morehouse University and will feature NCA Business
Meetings, Chapter Reports, future plans and several panel discussions. For

We encourage all members, lovers and supporters of Black art to attend.
NCA LAUNCHES TV PROGRAM
The
newly created NCA Communications and Education Department has launched a
weekly television show, “Black Arts & Culture USA” aired on New York’s
Manhattan Neighborhood Network Television (MNN) channel 34 on Monday
midnight (actually Tuesday morning 12 - 1 AM). The show will cover visual
arts nationally, as well as spoken word, dance, music and other performing
arts at various times. This cable TV program will soon be made available
to cable stations nation-wide. Produced by Kwame Brathwaite/Co-Operative
Ventures for NCAnewyork, the show plans to visit various cities where art
events are happening, to give the broadest coverage of the art scene.

This is a companion exhibition to the JVC exhibit that opened in June
featuring works by
Romare Bearden, Benny Andrews, Richard
Mayhew, Faith Ringgold
and others at the Russ Berrie Medical Science Pavilion,
1150 St. Nicholas Ave at 166th St. This show runs thru July 16th.

NEW YORK
CITY COUNCIL NAMES STREET FOR TOM FEELINGS
NCA,
the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College, the Putnam Avenue
Group and Friends of Tom Feelings has successfully moved the New York City
Council, to co-name the street that NCA’s Tom Feelings grew up on
at “Tom Feelings Way.” Leading the way and getting it done in record time
was Councilman Al Vann, a longtime friend of Tom’s and one of the
prime movers and shakers for the people of Brooklyn. Thanks Al.
